Ever wonder how much a different job pays?
Well, we get asked this a lot by nurses who are considering joining the field of medical aesthetics. This is obviously a good question to ask, and it's one that is highly variable.
So, whether you're an RN, LPN, or just heading into nursing school, we want to address how much you really can get paid as a nurse injector, to help provide guidance in your medical aesthetics journey.
First and foremost – cosmetic medicine is private medicine. This is so different compared to the work that we do in the hospital on a day-to-day basis. Typically, hospital nurses work 12 hour shifts and are paid a salary plus benefits and have a pension. A patient list is provided and there is never any need to recruit patients, advertise, market or pay overhead. This can be a big adjustment for nurses and medical professionals new to the aesthetics industry.
Cosmetic nursing is both personally and financially rewarding for those who are personable, hardworking, highly motivated, and well trained to produce exceptional results. This can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time!
Generally, pay scales can vary depending on experience, patient volume, prescriber, clinical situation and more.
Nurses must work with a medical director and are typically paid an hourly rate plus commission. Nurses who have a high volume of clients and can deliver comprehensive treatments are typically paid much higher than they are in a hospital setting.
In many cases, once established with clientele nurses can make over $150/hr (more than emergency room physicians). Not bad for potentially 9 years less schooling and not having to work nights!
In the long-term, this means that your practice has the potential to generate thousands of dollars daily from work that is more flexible, and more enjoyable!
The best part? Any medical professional can pursue a career in aesthetics so there is ample opportunity for everyone interested in expanding their scope of practice to include medical aesthetics.
What we have seen over the years is that the most successful nurses are the ones who are highly motivated, get educated properly from the start, ones who work with a good mentor, acquire clients organically, and have expectations of success long term.
It's important to remember that success in the clinic aesthetics industry is not overnight success. It takes time to build up your practice, clientele base, and network. However, if you put in the effort to grow your career, the opportunities are almost endless.
Often, those who try and skip out on the costs of getting educated and are overconfident too quickly wind up making big time mistakes that can be problematic to their career trajectory. It's important to do your research and find the best, and most comprehensive training program that is suited to you.
This is a career that involves patient care, and those who miss out on the opportunity to refine their skills will often have issues and setbacks only wishing they had done things differently at the start.
